Research by Instituto Boliviano de Investigación Forestal (IBIF) motivated the Bolivian government to issue a new decree in 2020 that allows the use of low-cost and low-impact logging technologies. This will greatly improve timber harvesting options and diversify management options for small-scale forest producers.

The native indigenous territory of Guarayos (Tierras Comunitarias de Origen – TCO) has a titled area of 1,343,646 ha, of which 90% are forests that are still in a good state of conservation, thanks to the 111 Community Forest Organizations (OFC) that execute their General Forest Management Plans in an area of 1,274,614 ha of forest.

In 2017, TBI’s partner Instituto Boliviano de investigación Forestal (IBIF) helped to strengthen the role played by the Central Indígena de Comunidades de Lomerío (CICOL) in natural resource management of Lomerío’s indigenous territory, which is home to more than 6,000 Chiquitano people.
